Texas eliminated the regular safety inspection for most non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025. Annual emissions testing is still required for eligible gasoline vehicles registered in the designated emissions counties. Commercial vehicles still have separate inspection requirements.
Texas generally requires annual emissions testing for gasoline-powered vehicles that are 2 through 24 years old and registered in an emissions county. Electric-only, diesel, motorcycle, and moped exemptions generally apply. Call with your vehicle details if you are unsure.
